19. Canossavile Children's Home

Those in red and are bold are those that Dewei thinks is appropriate . However , Dewei thinks that it is hard to find a home this week and has sugggested that we push this project forward to July . I will ask Joanne , Brandon and Ya Xing when they're exams will finish and then plan which week we want to carry this out ? I seriously think that pushing the project back is a good idea cause we can stiall ask Pertapis if they are available . If not , then i will search for the contacts of the chosen homes above to get Joanne to contact them ?

Do give your suggestions about this . (:

Thanks ,
Jiamin

Btw , i have emailed those of you that gave me your emails the other time . So please go and check your emails . :D

Hey there.

For the benefit of those who didn't come for the past few meetings, i'm gonna take time to type out what we have planned so far and i hope you all will read this yeahs.

We have aborted our previous idea to go to the SPD as we thought of doing simple and do it well. So now, we have actually decided to still do about the physically disabled but we will go to a children's home to let them experience how hard it is to be disabled through playing games . That's why most of our games we thought of (Previous post) either require them to be blindfolded or play only with one-hand or play with no hands at all. So there is actually a purpose behind all the games that we're gonna play with them.

We actually wanted to go back to Pertapis so things will be much much easier. But we have a big big problem - Pertapis is fully booked for the whole of June. Now, we are currently in the search of a home that we can go to. Ideas anyone? So our meeting is cancelled until we have secured a home ...

We really need everyone's help yeah, if you all wanna finish this by the june holidays.

Hey guys! Sorry I didn’t comment on the meeting sooner, been down with a bout of flu (the absolute best time to get it given the whole swine flu hooha). Anyway, I think the last meting looks great! Seems like lots and lots got accomplished :D Here’re my thoughts on what you’ve decided on so far.

Working with the SPD – FANTASTIC! At least there is a proper association, which would make logistics much easier. I suggest that the visit down to the centre be done ASAP, as if this whole thing is going to take place in June, we need to give the centre the earliest notice possible.

For the activity, the fact that you guys want to do a launch AND a sports carnivals shows that you want to both raise awareness for the cause, and directly help them. That’s great, and I think both projects are highly relevant. However, the combination of two events is going to make this project a very ambitious one, so before we start on it proper you need to make sure you have the full commitment of the entire team – cos that’s what it’s gonna take to pull this off!

THE LAUNCH
Target number of children, venue and time all okay. Video and flyers given out in pairs a great idea! Not so sure about the tableaux though…first, we might be obstructing the human traffic entering and exiting the place, plus it’ll be a loss of manpower. We definitely can’t do tableaux and give out flyers at the same time! Plus it might be quite tough to come up with varied and accurate portrayals of how these disabled children are maltreated by society. So, I dunno, maybe we should fine-tune this idea!

The talk – I’m not too sure if it’s a good idea to hold it for the public, cos for example if I were to visit the mall in order to hang out with my friends/get groceries/run errands, it’s highly unlikely I will decide to abandon/delay my plans in order to attend a talk in the middle of the mall…so we might end up with quite poor attendance :/ What if we held the talks for the disabled children instead, say just before the carnival? That way they will find inspiration to really go all out during the carnival itself, plus I feel they might be able to better relate to the paralympic athletes (:

THE SPORTS CARNIVAL
I think the details of this one can only be firmed up after we approach SPD, cos I think they would know best what activities will best fit for the children. The Milo van and the gift packs are great ideas, but keep in mind that also means munch more work and logistics, so we have to make sure we can handle everything.

In general I think we’ve made a great leap forward from the previous meetings, so I’m really proud of you guys (: Given your very ambitious agenda and the time constraints however, I think it’s going to be pretty hectic from the next meeting onwards, so you’ll need everyone onboard! Till then, study hard and all the best for the mid years!

Love,
Zara

Today's meeting was quite productive . Unlike the previous few . Thanks to the 6 who turned up . Ya Xing , Brandon , Ria , Hidayah , Asnita and myself . (:

Okay . Here's what we've discussed today .

- We narrowed down our beneficiary to the physically disabled children and the organisation we've decided to work with is the Scoiety for the Physically Disabled (SPD) . Here's the website incase any of you want it . http://www.spd.org.sg/

- Because of the MYEs , meetings will stop but after the MYE , i will confirm the date where some of us are going down to SPD to find out more stuff and ask whether they can work with us .
(Btw, it's at Tampines.)

- We decided to have a launch to raise awareness followed by a sports carnival for the childrens .

- The launch :
1. To raise awareness

2. 20-30 students

3. A weekend during the June holidays ? Maybe Sat ?

4. Venue : Tampines Mall since SPD is at Tampines

5. Some of use would create a freeze frame of how disabled children are bullied and they will freeze outside the Tampines Mall to kinda like attract attention . Meanwhile , there will be maybe a video playing repeatedly in the Mall and some of us would be giving out flyers . We wanted to pair up and give flyers , with one person sitting on the wheelchair giving flyers and the other will push them .

6. We were thhinking that maybe after all the giving out flyers and stuff , there could be like a small talk inside to raise awarness to the public . Maybe like inviting some people from the school to give a short speech and also inviting the paralympic swimmer (Yip Pin Xiu) and the horse rider (but i don't know who that is) to share their stories to motivate the students . At the same time , we'll maybe promote our sports carnival .

- Sports carnival

1. Venue : Tampines Stadium ?

2. Games we thought of

- captain's ball

- a relay where spoons of Milo are passed and see which group can pass the most milo spoons

- frisbee

- fishing (Small fishes put inside an inflatable swimming pool)

- the person pushing the wheelchair will be blind folded and the one on the wheeelchair have to give directions to the person so they can finish an obstacle course .

3. We thought of each student playing two kinds of games so in between that maybe got short break like giving them bread or that KFC snackers to eat ?

4. We were thinking of giving out tiny goodie bags with liek NEWater and Milo packets (Cause Milo are related to sports)

Now we're not sure where we can get wheelchairs , how to get milo's sponsor , whether SPD wants us to do this for them , whether we can use those places stated , alot more .... ):

We thought of everyone can design maybe the flyers and we'll pick out the best ?

Please give your opinions all right ?
